My fave radio station, Triple J, is drumming up votes for the best 100 Australian albums of all time. In case anyone cares . . .

Drones, The – Wait Long by the River and the Bodies of Your Enemies Will Float By
Augie March – Moo, You Bloody Choir
Gotye – Like Drawing Blood
The Living End – The Living End
Silverchair – Frogstomp
Pathogen – Bloodline
Cog – The New Normal
Birds of Tokyo – Birds of Tokyo
Darren Hanlon – Fingertips and Mountaintops
Youth Group – Casino Twilight Dogs

The Drones were always going to come in first. That album was one of the most life-changing things that ever happened to me. This band has to be the Rolling Stones of the future.

Obviously, all these albums touched me deeply, but I did want to share songs from just a couple, not all ov them. Gotye’s album, Like Drawing Blood, was a quirky discovery that really broadened my musical horizons, and the whole thing is a really great project. This is my favourite song from it.

Finally, for fans of hard rock and metal like me, Pathogen is a sadly underrated and totally excellent band. This album is tightly controlled and yet still raw, with a lovely melodic thread that runs through the whole thing. My favourite song is Tyranny of Hatred – I love the relentless menace of it.
